Business Minister warns of deeper cuts: Bosses at the South West Regional Development Agency fear the cuts forced on them by the new government could be much deeper than originally thought. Business Minister Vince Cable has warned that development agencies in the South are likely to bear the brunt of money-saving measures in the coming months, with government resources to be concentrated in areas such as the North East and West Midlands.
Increase in surveyor workloads: Workloads for surveyors increased for the first time in two years, a recent study has shown. RICS (The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) reported increased workloads from their membership over the first quarter of 2010, representing the first such increase since the beginning of the recession.
Falling construction output helps hold the UK economy in recession. Much to the surprise of many analysts the UK economy appears to have remained in recession, with GDP output falling 0.4% in the three months of July, August and September. Construction output fell by 1.1% in the same period.

Grand Designs under fire from contractors over health and safety. TV show Grand Designs has come under fire from contractors angry at regular scenes in the programme that appear to show poor health and safety management.
Purnell announces Tower Crane Register. A statutory tower crane register should be in place by April 2010, according to James Purnell, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, preceeded by a voluntary system starting later this year.
